Position Summary

Lane College, an NCAA Division II institution located in Jackson, Tennessee, invites applications for the position of Head Men’s Basketball Coach. This full-time position is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and success of the men’s basketball program. Lane College is a proud member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).

The Head Coach will provide strategic direction, ensure NCAA compliance, foster student-athlete development, and promote a culture of academic excellence, integrity, and competitive success.


Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Coaching


Direct and oversee all aspects of the men’s basketball program in alignment with NCAA, SIAC, and institutional policies.
Develop and implement offensive and defensive strategies, practice plans, and game preparation.
Provide instruction, mentorship, and leadership to student-athletes to support athletic and personal development.
Evaluate player performance and assign positions to maximize team effectiveness.


Recruitment & Retention


Identify, recruit, and retain qualified student-athletes in collaboration with Admissions and Compliance.
Evaluate academic records to ensure eligibility and successful admission.
Assist in the allocation and management of athletic scholarships in accordance with institutional guidelines.


Student-Athlete Success


Monitor and support the academic progress of student-athletes; implement intervention strategies as needed.
Promote discipline, accountability, and personal growth among team members.
Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that prioritizes student-athlete well-being.


Compliance & Administration


Ensure full compliance with NCAA, SIAC, and Lane College rules and regulations; report any potential violations.
Maintain accurate and timely completion of required documentation, reports, and compliance forms.
Supervise assistant coaches and support staff.


Operations & Budget Management


Oversee program budget, including purchasing of equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
Coordinate team travel, scheduling, and logistics in collaboration with the Business Office.
Ensure proper maintenance and care of athletic equipment and facilities.


External Engagement & Fundraising


Promote the basketball program through community engagement, public relations, and fundraising initiatives.
Represent Lane College in a professional manner at institutional and external events.


Other Duties


Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.


 
Qualifications
 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years of coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate (NCAA) level.
Prior experience as a collegiate Head Basketball Coach is required.
Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance requirements.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Proven ability to fundraise and generate external financial support for an athletic program.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
Ability to travel extensively, including overnight travel (approximately 50%).

Adhere to NCAA Division II principles, including ethical conduct and sportsmanship.
Comply with all NCAA, SIAC, and Lane College policies, procedures, and compliance standards.
Promote a culture of integrity, accountability, and rules compliance within the program.
Foster an environment that supports student-athlete academic achievement, safety, and overall well-being.
Report any known or suspected violations of NCAA or institutional policies.

Failure to meet these expectations may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
