About the role

Mach is a defense manufacturing company that builds munitions to help the United States win future wars. Backed by $85M in funding from top venture firms, our small lean team ideates, designs, manufactures, and sells cutting-edge weapons to the Department of Defense.

Mach Industries is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in designing and prototyping cutting-edge mechanical and embedded systems for next-generation autonomous defense platforms. In this role, you will contribute to the development of novel stratospheric vehicles, blending mechanical engineering expertise with embedded systems design to create innovative, high-performance solutions. Your work will directly support our mission to deliver scalable, decentralized technologies that maintain an allied American edge in modern warfare.

At Mach Industries, we are redefining the future of defense through advanced, manufacturable platforms. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in prototyping and refining mechanical systems, integrating embedded controls, and optimizing designs for performance and scalability. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, you’ll help shape the next wave of defense technologies, from concept to deployment.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and prototype mechanical systems for novel stratospheric vehicles, including structural components, pneumatics, and refrigerant systems.

  • Develop embedded systems to control mechanical devices, such as pneumatic actuators and sensors, ensuring seamless integration and functionality.

  • Create 3D models of mechanical components using CAD tools, iterating designs based on prototyping, testing, and mission requirements.

  • Conduct hands-on testing and validation of prototypes, refining designs to meet durability, weight, and performance targets.

  • Support the development of scalable manufacturing processes for mechanical and embedded systems, leveraging rapid prototyping.

  • Research and apply emerging technologies, such as advanced thermal management or lightweight materials, to enhance system capabilities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 0 - 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on designing and prototyping mechanical systems.

  • Proficiency in embedded systems development for controlling hardware devices (e.g., actuators, sensors).

  • Strong skills in 3D modeling and CAD tools (e.g., NX, SolidWorks) for mechanical design and iteration.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and integrating mechanical and embedded systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with C/C++ programming for embedded system development.

  • Experience with pneumatics or refrigerant systems, particularly in aerospace or balloon-based applications.

  • Familiarity with lightweight materials, composites, or additive manufacturing techniques.

  • Knowledge of aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, or thermal management as applied to mechanical systems.

  • Prior work on defense or aerospace projects, with an understanding of mission-critical design requirements.

Position Levels:

This opportunity is open to those with a wide range of experience from new grads to Senior level engineers
