Position Overview:
We're seeking a Director of Global Purchasing to implement global sourcing strategies for key commodities such as fiber, yarn, polyurethane foam, polymer film, and non-wovens. This role, reporting to the CEO, prioritizes hands-on execution to drive bottom-line impact on a 9-figure spend through strategic analysis and negotiation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sourcing Strategy: Lead the development of sourcing strategies for key commodities, e.g., fiber, yarn, fabrics, non-wovens, polyurethane foams, and critical services. Conduct industry and cost driver analyses; identify strategic value drivers. Determine what to buy, from which suppliers, and how best to buy it.
- Commodity Management: Implement commodity sourcing strategies to realize target savings. Structure industry wide RFQ’s, market research, and supplier communication Analyze responses, identify opportunities, establish goals, identify target suppliers, and conduct negotiations to facilitate optimal value creation. Finalize supplier selection, pricing contracts.
- Supplier Management: Establish global procurement policies. Implement robust supplier performance and relationship management processes monitoring quality, delivery, and compliance through regular reviews and assessments.
- Continuous improvement: Support company continuous improvement initiatives through existing supplier engagement and technical support activities. Facilitate sourcing of new products and the development of new suppliers/capabilities. Manage a collaborative supplier VA/VE program.
- Market analysis: Monitor raw material and commodity trends. Run periodic supply market tests. Support sales in assessing competitor price benchmarks. Implement indexing strategies to maintain overall market competitiveness
- Collaborative Innovation: Work with suppliers to develop and maintain priority access to high-value new technologies. Provide support for joint development contracts and relationships.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with R&D, sales, and manufacturing teams to understand material requirements and ensure sourcing strategies align with business goals.
- Risk Management: Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential supply chain disruptions and ensure continuity of supply.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree or relevant certifications preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in purchasing, strategic sourcing, or supply chain management, with a focus on commodity management and supplier negotiations in a JIT and quality-driven industrial supply chain. Automotive industry experience preferred.
- Proven track record of developing and executing sourcing strategies in relevant commodities, driving bottom-line results.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to conduct comprehensive industry and cost driver analyses to inform sourcing decisions.
- Exceptional negotiation skills and strategic acumen, with the ability to influence and drive consensus among stakeholders.
- Experience in supplier performance management and risk mitigation within a global supply chain context.
- Proficiency in supply chain management software and tools.
