The Opportunity
This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining quality throughout the company by planning, implementing, coordinating, and maintaining quality systems and programs under the direction of the General Manager. The role will be responsible to ensure processes, documents and information are in place and maintained for accreditation systems, including but not limited to welder qualification, corrective action systems, and tool calibration systems. The role will routinely report quality performance to the Management group. Communications will include discrepant materials, processes requiring evaluation and/or potential solutions to mitigate quality issues.
The Team
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Certified Weld Inspector will work closely with departmental leadership to ensure corrective actions for quality issues are implemented and maintained.
Responsibilities
- Follow company safety rules in accordance with OSHA regulations such as: Wearing PPE, including but not limited to safety shoes, safety glasses and ear plugs.
- Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, code requirements and processes.
- Interpret specifications and documents; determining ability to comply with specs.
- Conduct and/or oversee audits, inspections and tests on products and processes at various stages to verify acceptable compliance as well as identify defects or potential liabilities.
- Coordinate training in various areas related to Quality. Periodically evaluate training to ensure expectations are achieved and maintained making necessary adjustments when training does not provide necessary results.
- Develop processes and appropriate documentation as needed for new equipment or processes.
- Maintain documentation and compliance with external standards, such as IAS AC-472.
- Review quality manual annually and make necessary revisions to ensure accreditation requirements are adhered to. Submit to General Manager annually for review and approval.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to areas regarding quality-related issues and updates.
- Administer company Corrective Action Report (CAR) System; evaluating corrective actions to ensure actions mitigate future reoccurrence.
- Monitor actions implemented to assess sustainability and make recommendation for change when corrective action is not meeting the intended results.
- Implement corrective actions as necessary for processes, procedures, methods and/or products which do not fulfill appropriate requirements, including IAS AC-472 accreditation.
- Build professional relationships with Quality professionals and industry organizations such as IAS, MBMA, etc.
- Assist Managers & Supervisors with compliance to quality standards through training and auditing.
- Maintains quality records and updates to quality manual.
- Collaborate with Purchasing Manager to ensure vendor performance meets accreditation quality requirements.
- Assure annual management reviews are conducted and documented to verify adequacy and effectiveness of the quality system. Annual reviews must produce a summary and documented action plan for improvement. Documents to be considered during management review must include customer complaints, back-charges, audit results and corrective actions.
- Oversee the development and documentation of specifications, methods and standard operating
procedures. - Perform any other duties or tasks, as requested.
Qualifications
- Certified Weld Inspector qualification is mandatory.
- Associate degree (two-year college or technical school) preferred, with strong preference for background in Welding
- 2 plus years of experience in manufacturing setting with quality assurance & continuous process improvements
- Excellent attendance and punctuality required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient using Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Windows, Picture and Fax Viewer
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills are required.
- Experience in the metal-building industry is preferred.
