How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region?
This position is responsible to provide oversight, technical support, and training for all activities associated with light rail vehicles, subsystems, and support equipment. The incumbent will develop and provide technical maintenance training as well as inspection and audit of work performed on rail vehicle equipment performed by rail maintenance personnel. In concert with department managers, develop, administer and maintain records of instruction programs for safety, warranty, preventative maintenance, testing, and calibration of test equipment. Acquire information on state-of-the-art practices in the industry. Work with management, forepersons and mechanics to establish and bring into regular use the best practices available.
Examples of duties
- Assists with maintenance plan development and performs audits of maintenance practices and activities to ensure compliance with industry standards, best practices and company policies. Creates and prepares reports on maintenance, operating performance and other reports as needed.
- Provides specific written and verbal instruction, classroom and in-shop training and direction to vehicle maintenance staff based on agency and department policies and procedures. Administers and maintains records of instruction programs for safety, warranty, preventative maintenance, and test equipment. Develops Computer Based Training (CBT) courses utilizing information from manufacturers, maintenance manuals, and subject matter experts.
- Assists with document management and revision control for maintenance manuals, procedures and drawings. Develops audits and reports to verify compliance with document revision control to ensure compliance with company policy/procedure and industry best practices.
- Diagnoses existing and/or potential problems with rail vehicles and audits repairs and modifications completed by Original Equipment Vendors (OEM) and vehicle maintenance staff. Develops lessons learned documents and recommends additions to the training program to address vehicle equipment failures. Interprets electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
- Ensures compliance with maintenance records retention plan in compliance with company policy/procedure and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Any of the following combinations of progressive experience (electrical, mechanical, railroad maintenance, or a similarly related field) and completed education (degree field of study in Business Administration, Transportation, Engineering, Management, or a closely related field):
Experience must include one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience (e.g., lead worker, training instruction, or project management in a maintenance setting). Completion of the Metropolitan Council leadership development or supervisory training program counts as one (1) year of supervisory experience.
High school diploma AND eight (8) years of experience, including one (1) year of lead/supervisory experience.
Associate’s degree AND six (6) years of experience, including one (1) year of lead/supervisory experience.
Bachelor’s degree AND four (4) years of experience, including one (1) year of lead/supervisory experience.
License Requirements:
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of original equipment manufacturer manuals, procedures, warranties, contracts, technical specifications and administrative procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable NEC, FRA, AREMA, APTA regulations and recommended practices
- Knowledge of AC/D
