Manager of Fitness Experience and Programs

What You'll Do:

• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and mentor fitness staff, including personal trainers, group exercise instructors, and gymnasium staff
• Develop and maintain staff schedules; cover shifts as needed to ensure adequate coverage.
• Conduct regular staff meetings and track certifications to maintain compliance.
• Responsible for coordinating with the Director of Sports and Fitness for the department budget and payroll, member and staff recruitment as related to sports and fitness, customer service, and safety.
• Lead by example, modeling professional behavior and exceptional customer service standards.
• Design, develop, implement, and oversee sports and fitness programs tailored to community needs and age groups.
• Manage Personal Training, Small Group Training, and sports programming (e.g., basketball leagues, flag football).
• Teach classes, train clients, or lead programming up to 15 hours per week.
• Monitor staff hours and manage payroll, ensuring adherence to budget and overtime thresholds.
• Collaborate with marketing to promote programs and increase engagement.
• Supervise fitness floor, gymnasium, studios, and entry/exit areas for safe and efficient operations.
• Ensure facilities and equipment are clean, orderly, and maintained.
• Respond promptly to member questions, concerns, and service requests; resolve issues professionally.
• Support front desk operations when needed, including greeting members, providing tours, and assisting with check-ins.
• Enforce Sports & Fitness policies and procedures consistently.
• Cross-promote other JCC programs (e.g., preschool, after-school, summer camps).
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, and emergency protocols.
• Report facility issues or emergencies to the Director of Sports and Fitness promptly.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science or Kinesiology or related field. Masters preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a fitness or coaching role
• Management experience in a fitness environment
• Prior experience leading group exercise classes
• NASM/ NSCA/ ACSM certification a plus
• National Group Exercise Certification preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to organize and execute work independently under deadlines; ability to work with grace and good humor under pressure.
• Ability to work cooperatively with other departments within the JCC.

SCHEDULE

Monday - Thursday 1pm - 9:15pm
Friday - 11:30am - 6:30pm
