What You'll Get To Do:
The Principal Field Engineer, locally known as a Production Support Engineer (PSE), performs or oversees installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and modification of equipment. The Principal Field Engineer will primarily support production activities on Launcher equipment in support of the Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) contracted work at Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific (SWFPAC) in Bangor, Washington, and secondarily support the planning, construction, and activation of a new Launcher Equipment Processing Building (LEPB) in support of the Lifecycle Extension 2nd Phase (LE2) at SWFPAC to replace aging infrastructure with new facilities.
The new team member will perform a variety of maintenance and technical support functions on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations. The Principal Field Engineer will analyze and evaluate products and related performance. Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time. Provides Subject Matter Expert (SME) oversight and technical support, including material review, for technicians on coordinative engineering field changes. Maintains effective customer communications and relations. May provide onsite training to Northrop Grumman and customer support personnel. This position will be reporting to the SWFPAC Production Supervisor under the SWFPAC Field Operations Site Manager.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Support operation and maintenance of the Strategic Weapon System (SWS) missile Launcher subsystem on the TRIDENT and COLUMBIA class submarines in Silverdale, WA.
- Support planning and activation of a new facility to replace aging infrastructure and stand up new capabilities in the growth of Northrop Grumman Field Operations business unit at SWFPAC.
- Daily operational support: Tactical Equipment (TE) and Support Equipment (SE) operations, provides daily work and 6-month projected schedule planning, and guides technicians to optimize maintenance and repair objectives to meet schedules and contract incentives.
- Daily maintenance support: Conduct fault isolation and material review of effected equipment IAW approved drawings, schematics, and approved procedures to guide system and component level repairs on defective hardware.
- Perform/support review and analysis of engineering schematics, supplier design data, support of functional test requirements including acceptance, qualification, and system integration on fielded and future systems.
- Work with local customer engineering and local 3rd level and off-site 4th level plant engineering teams on product development and anomaly resolution.
- Work with Government Logistics entities and Northrop Grumman Logistics to provision for and support tactical and support equipment.
- Deploy to sister sites in Kings Bay, GA, and Cape Canaveral, FL with potential travel to support shipyard operations in Norfolk, VA, and Bremerton, WA, and the build yards in Groton, CT, and Quonset Point, RI.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in STEM related field and a minimum of 5 years’ related experience.
- 4+ years’ experience performing manufacturing, field integration, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of systems at customer locations including shipyards, build yards, ordnance facilities, and test facilities.
- Familiarity with submarine strategic weapon systems tactical equipment refurbishment and shipboard onload and offload preparation for installation and operations.
- Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to work after hours and weekends
