Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: 

The Medical Director serves as the chief medical advisor to Jefferson County Public Health and provides direct leadership for the department’s Clinical Operations. This position collaborates with department leadership, clinical teams, epidemiologists, and community partners to guide disease prevention, clinical services, harm reduction, and clinical policy initiatives. This role ensures that clinical programs align with national best practices, support equitable access to care, and integrate effectively with broader population health strategies. 

 

This position reports to the Deputy Director and provides direct supervision, medical oversight and strategic leadership for the department’s public health clinics, including sexual and reproductive health services, immunizations, and harm reduction programming. This position also provides medical direction and oversight for nurse home visitation programs. 

 

The Medical Officer also serves as a medical expert and department spokesperson in coordination with the Public Information Officer, provides trusted medical guidance during public health emergencies and represents JCPH in regional, state, and national public health initiatives. 

   

SCHEDULE: 

This position operates in person, with some hybrid work available. 

 

COMPENSATION:  

Hiring Range:  $168,804-$206,316 USD Annually 

Final compensation will be determined based on education, experience skills and time in office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

Clinical Services Leadership and Service Delivery (70%) 

  • Provide direct supervision, medical direction and oversight and consultation for clinical services including sexual and reproductive health, immunizations and harm reduction services.  

  • Provide medical direction and oversight for nurse home visitation and infectious disease. 

  • Position will directly supervise minimal clinic staff and in addition fulfill supervision requirements for MA staff and Peer Support Specialists for billing purposes. 

  • Depending on specialty area, may carry medical case load within clinic. 

  • Develop and approve clinical protocols, standing orders, and medical directives for public health programs.
