Position Overview:
Children’s Home Society of South Dakota is seeking a Music Therapy Classroom Teacher to plan and implement instructional and therapeutic music experiences that support each student's individualized social, emotional and academic goals through both individualized music therapy sessions and regular PK-8th grade music classes. What You’ll Do:
- Academic Instruction: Plan and implement instructional and therapeutic music experiences that are meaningful and connected to students’ social, emotional, and academic learning goals. Communicate clear learning goals and maintain high expectations for all students. Conduct and utilize ongoing assessments to inform instruction and therapy. Evaluate, select, and modify music therapy interventions that align with classroom activities and individual student needs.
- Classroom Rules: Establish appropriate classroom rules and procedures that are clearly understood by all students and ensure student safety. Enforce rules and follow procedures.
- Classroom Procedures: Have all materials, equipment, etc., ready for timely use. Implement smooth and effective transitions (e.g., from one activity to another, from one location to another, as students enter and leave the room). Introduce academic and social learning goals and objectives.
- Music Therapy: Design and implement individualized music therapy interventions aligned with each student’s therapeutic goals. Use music to explore emotions, strengthen social connections, build self-regulation and coping skills, and address behavioral needs. Monitor progress and measure the effectiveness of interventions through data collection and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to ascertain whether individuals qualify for music therapy. Participate in identification, assessment, delivery, and goal setting for eligible students.
- Student Records: Maintain student records regarding the referral, evaluation, and placement process.
- Material Management: Organize materials used in music therapy and maintain an inventory of materials.
- Professional Responsibilities: Communicate and collaborate with all colleagues, social workers, therapists, etc. Model professionalism and servant leadership through efforts to enhance teaching practices, student learning, and school culture. Complete all required documentation accurately and on time. Perform additional duties as assigned in support of school and agency goals.
