Colorectal Cancer Intern

This practicum will support the development of a targeted colorectal cancer (CRC) screening initiative focused on increasing access among BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities in Boston. Working in partnership with BPHC and local Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), I will help design and pilot a community-based CRC outreach program rooted in health equity. Building on the evidence-based "FluFIT" model, the project will explore opportunities to integrate stool-based CRC screening with routine clinical visits and community health events. I will conduct stakeholder interviews with clinic leadership, frontline providers, and community representatives to identify operational barriers and culturally responsive outreach strategies. Additionally, I will support the development of educational tools tailored to marginalized populations and assist in creating a policy brief aimed at addressing insurance-related coverage gaps for follow-up colonoscopy. The primary deliverable will be comprehensive protocols to guide implementation of a colorectal cancer screening initiative designed for Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) serving LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities in Boston. This will include workflow recommendations, culturally tailored patient education materials, and strategies for integrating CRC screening with existing clinical services such as flu shot clinics or primary care visits.
