Business Analyst, Research Informatics

What this position is all about: Research Informatics & Data Engineering is part of an enterprise effort to enable data-driven science at Cellarity by building a robust technology platform.  This partner-centric group is embedded with stakeholders across Cellarity’s novel pipeline value chain from Computation & Data Science to Exploratory & Platform Biology and Medicinal Chemistry.    Our focus is to build an end-to-end operational platform bridging lab data generation and data science in an exploratory environment, ensuring data is democratized across the company.  We consistently strive to innovate, iterate, and improve our practices, while driving novel drug discovery at Cellarity.

What you would be responsible for:

• Assist with establishing internal R&D informatics capabilities to advance and optimize our data infrastructure, architecture, integrations, and pipeline development, building a robust computational platform in collaboration with our bench and data scientists.
• Configure and maintain internal Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN), Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), scientific applications, and analytics platforms.
• Gather scientific requirements directly from Biology, Chemistry, and Sequencing teams to design, test, and implement custom configurations of ELN workflows and assay informatics protocols, LIMS NGS workflows, and platform integrations enabling end-to-end functionality from data generation to analysis/data science/interpretation.
• Build and maintain ELN protocols for analysis and annotation of high-throughput data from functional phenotypic assays (e.g., biochemical and cell-based readouts, flow cytometry, high-content screening/imaging, qPCR, etc.)
• Define, contribute to, and proactively communicate lab informatics standards and best practices establishing repeatable templates and frameworks, enabling efficient data management and governance.
• Write comprehensive and intuitive informatics training documentation, user guides, and internal data process SOPs.
• Develop relationships and build solutions with external consultants/contractors and vendor engineers.
• Innovate and advise on the latest technologies and standard methodologies in research informatics and be able to identify and implement effective technical solutions.

What experiences will you need:

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or a related discipline with 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience with research informatics, ELN, & LIMS platforms (e.g., Dotmatics Browser, Studies, Screening Ultra, Vortex; and Sapio LIMS).
• Working knowledge of database engineering and optimization (e.g., SQL, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, etc.
• Working knowledge of python scripting.  Experience with R is a plus.
• Practical experience with data and metadata modeling, including alignment of optimized database design with metadata usage.
• Proficiency with modern software development methodologies such as Agile, source control, project management, and issue tracking with JIRA.
• Scientific fluency and a demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with an emphasis on teamwork, collaboration, and communication.

• Experience with ELN & LIMS Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and platform integrations.
• Experience with workflow orchestration frameworks such as Prefect, Airflow, Nextflow, Snakemake, and AWS Step Functions.
• Experience working with GxP and non-GxP data.
