Project/Unit Description
A full-time, supplemental position is available as the Branch Head for the Embedded Computing Branch (ECB) within the System Development Division (SDD) of the Aerospace, Transportation and Advanced Systems (ATAS) Lab at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). SDD designs and builds full-scale, high-fidelity threat radar simulators that are deployed to military test and training ranges. The Embedded Computing Branch consists of a team of engineers who develop real-time embedded software and firmware that is installed within the threat radar simulators.
Job Purpose
Lead multiple sponsored research projects. Manage Branch (7-15 FTE) administrative activities including hiring, appraisals and sponsored project success.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist Division leadership with business development activities, including white papers and proposals.
- Perform manpower planning for branch personnel.
- Seek out and respond to opportunities for new research.
- Provide mentorship to engineers within the branch.
- Conduct yearly appraisals for all branch personnel.
- Track and communicate branch status during SDD leadership meetings.
- Oversight of branch programs and operational resources and activities.
- Maintaining the technical competency within the branch through professional development and training.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Previous experience as a task lead on a $500k+ task.
- 3+ years of experience on developing firmware for radar applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Secret Clearance.
- Experience in troubleshooting radar firmware/software in the field.
Travel Requirements
- 10% - 25% travel.
Education and Length of Experience

- 9-14 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
- 7-12 years of related experience with a Masters’ degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
- 4-9 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
U.S. Citizenship Requirements
Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.
Clearance Type Required
Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
