Overview
This position is responsible for the daily work and work-flow within the emergency department (ED). The ER Clinical Coordinator (ECC) RN works with the Director of Emergency Services to ensure operational and hospital standards are upheld. The ED ECC RN is integrally involved in ensuring that staff, patients, and other department services come together seamlessly to move patients through the emergency room process and ensure that the patients have adequate knowledge for follow up care.
Responsibilities
Communication: Leads daily huddle and attends staff meetings; updates personnel with pertinent information regarding changes in the department and/or process improvements.
Daily staffing: Ensures adequate staffing per shift, based on Title 22 standards. Communicates with Triage RN to assign patients to staff based on staff competency, training, and aptitude. Assigns or gives breaks and lunches as needed. Writes and continually updates the daily assignment on the staff whiteboard. Steps in to assist when needed in all areas, and when there are sick calls or emergencies. Assists with maintaining the six-week nurse schedule.
ED Readiness: assists with room turnovers and set-ups. Maintains compliance with readiness, for example: ensures supplies are restocked, code carts and equipment are checked daily per protocol and are always ready for emergency use.
Throughput: Collaborates with ED Physcian and Nursing Supervisor regarding dispositions, admissions, discharges, and transfers to other facilities; ensures timely and efficient patient throughput. Works with ER Technician to ensure EMTALA compliance and regulatory standards for transfers. Monitors patient volume and employs efforts to decrease "Left Without Being Seen" or "Against Medical Advice."
Patient Relations: Is committed to outstanding customer service and is able to facilitate a pleasant patient experience. Responds to patient or family concerns in a compassionate and appropriate manner. Seeks innovative ways to address patient concerns and shares all feedback from patients with team. Conducts or delegates patient follow-up phone calls. Escalates issues to Director as appropriate.
Interdisciplinary Teamwork: Assists with coordination of care for ED boarder patients (ie. observation or inpatient) including communication with hospitalists and members of the interdisciplinary team (ie. physical therapy, social work, case management). Ensures frequent and effective communication throughout the day to expedite safe patient care.
Work Environment: Ensures a safe and healthy work environment for all staff. Strives to support team morale. Assists the director in providing ongoing training and collecting performance improvement data.
Quality: Works with Director to ensure quality metrics are met and supports all performance improvement activities. Is an active participant in data collection and interpretation.
Leadership: Provides feedback to the director and participates in the interview and hiring process; provides input for staff performance evaluations. Provides leadership when the director is unavailable; acts as a role model to all staff. Acts as the point person for the ED for concerns, complaints, etc. from staff, physcians, and others as needed.
Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN preferred.
Experience: At least 2 years emergency room experience; Leadership/charge experience preferred.
Licenses & Certifications: Current California RN license; ACLS; BLS, PALS
Required Skills & Knowledge: Strong communication skills; ability to multi-task with strong organization and coordination skills. Proficient on computer with skills in Microsoft Office and Outlook. Experience with Epic EHR is preferred.

Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to level of experience, education, special skills and/or certifications.Minimum:
