About the Role

The Sr Business Development Manager, Retail Verticals is an individual contributor responsible for driving revenue growth by acquiring, activating, and expanding strategic retail partnerships in our Point-of-Sale business. You will own complex opportunities from market development through commercial close and ongoing growth while helping Happen Bank strengthen its position across priority retail verticals.

What You'll Do

  • Own and deliver revenue growth across assigned retail verticals
  • Develop and executing account acquisition and expansion plans
  • Build and manage a qualified pipeline of high-value national and regional retail partners using market data, customer insights, and competitive analysis
  • Lead the full business development cycle from prospecting and discovery through solution design, negotiation, contracting, launch, and expansion
  • Build trusted relationships with executive and operational decision-makers and structure commercial solutions that create value for partners and Happen Bank
  • Partner with Product, Credit, Risk, Legal, Marketing, Finance, and Operations to evaluate opportunities, remove barriers, and deliver strong partner experiences
  • Translate market and partner insights into recommendations that improve product positioning, go-to-market execution, and internal workflows
  • Maintain disciplined pipeline management, forecasting, and performance reporting using CRM, analytics, and AI-enabled tools where appropriate
  • Represent Happen Bank at industry events, associations, and conferences to strengthen relationships and identify emerging growth opportunities

About You

  • 6+ years of B2B sales or business development experience, including enterprise or national account ownership; and a bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated success independently owning complex sales cycles and delivering measurable revenue growth
  • Ability to develop vertical and account strategies, prioritize high-impact opportunities, and move effectively between planning and hands-on execution
  • Strong commercial judgment with experience structuring and negotiating complex, high-value agreements
  • Analytical and financially minded, with the ability to use data and market intelligence to make decisions, forecast accurately, and improve performance
  • Clear and credible communicator who can influence executives, partners, and cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority
  • Sound judgment in regulated environments, with the ability to balance growth opportunities with risk, compliance, and customer experience
  • Ownership mindset with a track record of improving workflows, developing repeatable practices, and navigating ambiguity
  • You have hands-on experience using AI tools to accelerate your work and improve output quality. You're equally comfortable using them yourself and sharing effective approaches with others, while applying sound judgment and recognizing where human oversight remains essential

Nice to Have

  • Experience in financial services, fintech, consumer lending, retail finance, point-of-sale financing, or embedded finance
  • Established relationships with national retailers, merchant groups, technology platforms, or relevant industry associations
