Job Description:

Winchester Hospital is a Top Massachusetts recognized 223-bed regional hospital that is the leading provider of comprehensive health care services in the northwest suburban Boston area. 

The Electroencephalography Technician contributes to the Hospital’s mission by providing diagnostic Electroencephalogram EEG studies to assist in the diagnosis of seizure disorders. This clinical staff position will have an impact on improving patient and physician satisfaction by providing the best possible experience for our patient as well as performing and preparing accurate EEG testing and reports for Neurologist’s interpretation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience Required:  

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. 
  • Completion of a clinical training course from an American Society of Electroencephalogram Technicians approved school, successful completion of a national recognized accredited Polysomnographer program or equivalent on the job training

Education/Experience Preferred: At least one year of EEG Tech experience

Required Certification: BLS

Preferred Certification: Certification by American Society of Electroencephalogram Technician

                                   

        

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Gathers and analyzes patient information by reviewing physician orders for specific tests.
  • Explains testing procedure to patients.
  • Prepares equipment for use by calibrating equipment required for testing, verifying proper functions and making adjustments as necessary.
  • Applies electrodes and sensors to patient according to guidelines.
  • Performs inpatient or outpatient EEG study and monitors patient for proper function of all EEG channels throughout the study.
  • Performs inpatient EEG by going to patient units including complex areas such as operating room, ICU, and emergency room.
  • Assists in the preparation and transcription of reports for physician interpretation.
  • Cleans and disinfects all equipment.
  • Assists with scheduling patient for procedures, answering departments, and filing of medical records.
  • Inputs patient charges and other pertinent information into the EPIC system.
  • Communicates and collaborates with referring physician and neurology staff to review tests and availability.
