JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
WPSU, Penn State’s PBS and NPR public media station serving Central PA, is seeking a highly motivated intern to contribute to audio production, social media and presentation of audience data. Our broadcast and digital media teams are focused on producing, distributing and promoting informative, educational, and enriching media to Central and Northern Pennsylvania.
The intern will work with both teams on items essential to the growth of our service to the community.
Tasks may include, but are not limited to:
- Organizing audio recording sessions and assisting in audio production
- Participating in the distribution of audio and video media across internal and external channels
- Developing content for social media appropriate to WPSU’s news stories, along with other content appropriate to WPSU’s mission
- Writing assignments including scripts for broadcast media, internal presentations, etc.
- Gathering and analyzing social media and digital media audience statistics
- Assist with search engine optimization for WPSU’s digital content
Knowledge of and special interest in public media is preferred. Past experience working professionally with social media, audio production, news, or digital media development and distribution is a plus and an emphasis on undergraduate work in Media Studies; Mass Communications; Strategic Communications is desired.
The successful candidate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, research skills, and the ability to work independently to complete assigned tasks within identified timeframes. The successful candidate must also be comfortable learning and utilizing technology, audio recording and editing tools, and data analysis tools. This position is available for up to 10 hours per week at $15 per hour for the Fall 2025 semester and/or Spring 2026 semester.
