Job Overview
Under the supervision of a faculty member conducting a research project, the Research Assistant is responsible for assisting the faculty member in a variety of tasks related to the research project. This may include but is not limited to: researching the relevant legal source materials, conducting reviews of the relevant academic literatures, analyzing data, drafting and editing articles and books for scholarly publication, conducting case coding, and reviewing formatting and citations.

The work performed by this position supports the research activities of faculty. Research and the creation and dissemination of knowledge are key aspects of the University’s mission. The Faculty Research Assistant reports to Dr. Jamillah Bowman Williams and has no direct reports.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, or enrollment in an undergraduate degree program.
Demonstrated interest in legal research, law, public policy, or a related field.
Strong research and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information clearly and concisely.
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in an academic research environment.
Proficiency with standard office and research tools (e.g., Microsoft Office or Google Workspace) and willingness to learn legal research databases and data management systems.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a research team.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior research experience in an academic, policy, or legal setting (e.g., undergraduate research, research assistantships, internships, or thesis work).
Experience conducting literature reviews or legal research using sources such as academic journals, policy reports, or legal databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).
Familiarity with legal citation formats (e.g., Bluebook) or experience editing academic or legal writing.
Experience supporting data collection, qualitative research, or policy analysis.
Interest in pursuing law school, graduate study, or a career in law, legal scholarship, or public policy

Pay Range
The projected hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $17.55 - $21.45. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
