Job Title: Group Educator
Location: Kansas City, MO
Employment Type: Full-time
Shift: Monday-Friday (8:00am – 5:00pm CST)
Job Summary:
The Group Educator facilitates educational groups for adults in recovery from substance use, mental health conditions, and co-occurring disorders. This role involves delivering evidenced-based curriculum that promotes skill-building that enhances a participants' recovery journey. The ideal candidate is compassionate, knowledgeable about addiction and recovery principles, and skilled in group facilitation.
They will conduct structured educational groups, cover topics such as relapse prevention, coping skills, life skills, mental health wellness, and recovery principles. They will encourage active participation, mutual support, and constructive discussion. They will maintain accurate records of attendance, participation, and adhere to confidentiality laws (HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2). They will work with case managers, therapists/counselors, certified peers, and medical staff to align group content with individual treatment plans.

Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Group Preparation
- Reviews client records: Familiarizes themselves with group members' backgrounds, treatment plans, and goals.
- Develops session plans: Creates structured agendas to achieve specific objectives and ensure productive discussions.
- Coordinates logistics: Arranges meeting spaces, materials, and equipment as needed.
Facilitating Group Sessions
- Creates a safe and supportive environment: Establishes a non-judgmental, empathetic atmosphere where members feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings.
- Encourages active participation: Fosters open communication, encourages members to share their experiences, and ensures everyone has an opportunity to contribute.
- Guides discussions and activities: Leads the group through planned exercises, discussions, and interventions to achieve therapeutic goals.
- Manages group dynamics: Addresses conflicts, sets boundaries, and ensures respectful interactions among members.
Post-Group Responsibilities
- Documents session progress: Records key takeaways, member participation, and any notable events or concerns.
- Evaluates session effectiveness: Assesses the group's progress toward therapeutic goals and identifies areas for improvement.
- Communicates with treatment teams: Shares relevant information with other healthcare professionals involved in members' care.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintains confidentiality: Adheres to HIPAA guidelines and ensures the confidentiality of group members' personal information.
- Continues professional development: Pursues ongoing education and training to enhance facilitation skills and stay current with best practices in behavioral health.
Education and/or Experience Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent certificate is required;
- A Bachelors degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, or related field
