About the role

Are you confident in your ability to apply technical and creative solutions in natural resources permitting, conducting delineations and coordinating with regulatory agencies? Do you enjoy balancing field work with technical writing and project management? If you're looking to deepen your environmental consulting career in a collaborative, mission-driven environment, this might be the right fit for you.

About Us

MNL is a full-service ecological restoration company dedicated to Healing the Earth. Our services include native seed and plant production, shoreline and wetland restoration, prescribed fire/burns, conservation grazing, vegetation management, and ecological consulting. We also support solar and infrastructure projects with pollinator-friendly practices and land stewardship expertise.

KES specializes in wetland delineation, state and federal permitting, hydrology studies, restoration planning, and environmental assessments for public and private sector clients across Minnesota.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Mid-Level Wetland & Environmental Services Professional to join the team at our Orono office. This role focuses primarily on wetland delineations, regulatory permitting, and technical project support. You'll split your time between field work and office work, supporting and leading a variety of environmental consulting projects.

You’ll work independently on small to mid-sized projects and support senior-level professionals on more complex scopes. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys technical depth, a mix of indoor/outdoor work, and wants to continue growing in the field of ecological consulting with a team that values both precision and mentorship.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct Field Work: Lead or support wetland delineations using USACE protocols and regional supplements; collect data related to soils, vegetation, and hydrology; perform wetland mitigation monitoring and vegetation surveys.
  • Prepare Technical Reports: Draft wetland delineation reports, permitting narratives, mapping deliverables, functional assessments, and mitigation monitoring summaries.
  • Complete Permit Applications: Prepare and submit WCA, USACE Section 404, and MN DNR Public Waters permit materials; coordinate directly with regulatory agencies and respond to comments.
  • Coordinate Projects: Take ownership of smaller scopes and task areas—tracking timelines, schedules, and deliverables with light oversight.
  • Mentor Junior Staff: Provide day-to-day direction during field work, help review draft materials, and support the professional development of early-career team members.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Communicate regularly with project managers, senior consultants, field staff, and clients to keep work aligned and moving forward.

What You Will Need To Be Successful

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Ecology, Biology, Soil Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience conducting wetland delineations using the 1987 USACE Manual and regional supplements (Minnesota-specific experience preferred).
  • A Minnesota Certified Wetland Professional or Wetland Professional In Training Certification (or a willingness to pursue this certification).
  • Experience preparing and submitting WCA and Section 404 permit applications.
  • Strong plant ID and habitat assessment skills.
  • Comfortable working independently in the field and managing time and documentation.
  • Experience using GPS and GIS tools (Trimble, ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro) to support data collection and mapping.
  • Strong writing skills and attention to detail for technical report writing and regulatory correspondence.
  • A collaborative, communicative work style with the ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs., work long hours (som
