The Fowler School of Law at Chapman University invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of Legal Practice and Director of Competitions position, beginning in August 2025. 

The initial faculty appointment will be for a one-year, renewable contract that may lead, after three years, to successive renewable longer-term non-tenure track contracts consistent with ABA Standards. In an exceptional case, an appointment may be made for a longer-term contract.  This position reports to the Associate Dean for Academics under the leadership of the Dean of the Fowler School of Law.

Responsibilities

Primary Appointment

The primary faculty appointment as a non-tenure track faculty member will be pursuant to the University appointment contract for NTT faculty. Responsibilities include:

• Teaching 12 credit hours annually, 6 of which will be Competitions teams courses.
• Engage in regular School of Law committee assignments and other School of Law service obligations

Special Appointment

The administrative appointment as Director of Competitions will be pursuant to a Special Appointment contract which will set out the specific administrative responsibilities connected with the program and carry separate compensation.  

The successful candidate will direct the competitions teams programs, fostering academic excellence and innovation to maintain and enhance our national reputation for excellence in advocacy training and teaching; prioritize ethics and professionalism in advocacy and all student competitions-related conduct; possess excellent communication and teaching skills, preferably with a demonstrated track record of competitions teams instruction/coaching for moot court, mock trial or other law school competition teams as a coach; practice solid fiscal responsibility and management; possess a record of professional achievement; and expect to carry out a leadership role in the national advocacy/law school competitions community.  Details include:

• Design and manage the Fowler School of Law's advocacy programs, including the competition teams such as Mock Trial, Moot Court and others
• Supervise students enrolled in Competitions courses
• Train student advocates
• Recruit, supervise and mentor faculty and alumni coaches
• Coll
