Patient Business Representative-Institute for Advanced Medicine-Harlem Health Center-Mount Sinai Morningside-Full Time-Days
Job Summary:
Manages patient’s admissions, insurance coverage, bed coverage, and discharge.
- Customer Service - Understands and meets the needs of external and internal customers. Puts the customer at the center of services, systems and processes. Orienting new patients to clinic services and patient expectations
- Influences others positively through actions and words resulting in improved work environment, services, processes and/or systems. Fostering a positive team dynamic and environment with peers, internal and external stakeholders
- Contacting patients to schedule; reschedule or cancel appointments, may include portal training for call center to answer telephone calls regarding setting up patient appointments within the Institute for Advanced Medicine, Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery as well as any other ambulatory care practices within the Mount Sinai Health System.
- Pre visit planning- Appointment reminders, documenting patient outreach, maintaining a clean Department Appointment Report(DAR) in Epic to aid in reducing no-shows and denials
- Obtains the appropriate information required to complete the registration process, scanning all necessary documents and insurance cards
- Collecting and reconciling copay and cash drawers daily
- Disbursing and reconciling patient MetroCard distributions daily
- Confirms the patient's insurance status, and priority creates the patient's medical record and encounter forms for the visit to see medical/service providers
- Monitoring and working Referral and Registration Workqueues daily. Maintaining Epic In-Basket pool and Epic chat messages
- Refers calls to medical /service providers regarding patient care issues, directs calls to appropriate personnel regarding clinical/administrative issues, contacts patients to inform them of next appointment or changes in the scheduling of appointments or changes in the scheduling of appointments
Education Requirements:
- High School Graduate or GED required.
Experience Requirements:
- Healthcare Insurance verification and Front Desk registration
- Minimum 2 years of registration experience within a medical setting (doctor’s office, hospital).
- Bi-Lingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
- Knowledgeable in medical health insurances and front desk registration.
General Skills and Competencies:
- Basic medical terminology and computer knowledge.
- Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Must have experience with a high volume call center.

Compensation Statement
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $28.51 - $30.90 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
