Denver Health Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Adult and Pediatric Emergency Department team. This role will entail seeing patients in our adult observation unit and fast track setting, as well as, our pediatric urgent care. Our Pediatric Emergency Department and Urgent Care (PEDUC) is a co-located in the same pavillion as the adult emergency department. The pediatric urgent care sees approximately 30,000 visits per year and is open 24/7, 365 days per year. The PEDUC has a separate ambulance entrance, waiting room and staff from the Adult Emergency Department on the Denver Health main campus, and is a Level 2 verified ACS trauma center. The Adult Emergency room is a Level I trauma center and cares for more than 120,000 patients each year. Both the pediatric and adult emergency medicine groups staff large compliments of physician attendings, APPs, residents, and fellows.
Denver Health Medical Center has inpatient pediatric/adult wards, PICU, and MICU for admissions. In addition to our on site locations, our telemedicine Pediatric Virtual Urgent Care is growing and will be open 7 days per week by Summer 2025.

Denver Health is affiliated with the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and the emergency department serves as a training site for emergency medicine, pediatric and family medicine residents as well as medical and APP students. Under attending physician supervision, the APP provide in-person and virtual acute care to patients of all ages including performing history and physical exams, ordering diagnostic workups as indicated by clinical presentation and setting, development of a treatment plan, consultation with medical and surgical specialties, arranging necessary outpatient follow up, prescribing medications, performing procedures within the scope of expertise and departmental protocols, and completing thorough and timely documentation. The applicant must function well as part of a multi-disciplinary team and should be highly self-motivated, organized, and capable of using their time efficiently.
The ideal applicant will have 1 year of experience in a urgent care or emergency room setting but candidates with experience in other areas of clinical practice will be considered.
Essential Functions:
- Monitors and evaluates medical condition of patient and under the supervision of a physician and in collaboration with other disciplines and standards of care or applying appropriate protocols, make decisions regarding treatment changes. Refers patient to specialized services as needed. (20%)
- Determines and assesses the health status of patients by reviewing records, taking comprehensive medical histories, and performing physical examinations. (20%)
- Orders and administers appropriate medications within the limits of the appropriate statutory limitations or refers patient to a caregiver in a specialty area. Initiates, performs or directs other healthcare professionals to perform screenings and diagnostic tests. (15%)
- Completes required documentation legibly, thoroughly and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts, case files and records. (10%)
- Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff. (5%)
- May be assigned to perform lead work and/or involvement in clinical coordination, health station management or responsibility for special projects which may encompass protocol development, management planning, scheduling and other administrative tasks as necessary to support practice environment. (10%)
- Attends and participates in administrative staff meetings. Utilizes the principles and practices of effective communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies. (10%)
