JOB PURPOSE: The Laboratory Analyst II in the Tighe laboratory will assist in lab management including compliance with regulation, oversight of trainees and training. Additionally, the role includes performing research assessing responses to air pollution to define factors that predict susceptibility. This includes primary cell culture, exposure to air pollutants and assessment of exposure responses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs laboratory management activities including maintaining regulatory compliance, oversight of other laboratory staff and trainees and assistance with laboratory financial oversight.

• Participate in training of laboratory trainees (undergraduates, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows).

• Support experimental design, planning and performance.

• Troubleshoot established and/or develop new laboratory procedures and assays. This includes independent assessment of prior literature and published protocols.

• Perform studies on primary airway epithelial cell cultures grown at air liquid interface, exposed to different types of air pollutants and then assessed for biological responses.

• Maintain a laboratory culture of collaboration and cooperation. This includes collaboration with internal and external collaborators.

• Assist in the writing and development of manuscripts, grants and abstracts at the direction of the principal investigator.

• Assist in financial oversight of laboratory expenses and development of budgets for new and/or proposed studies.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience, Education and Licensure

An experienced leader and financial executive with health care experience preferably in the home health field. An energetic, "straight shooter" with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image. A strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus. A well-organized and self-directed individual who is "politically savvy", "street smart" and a team player. An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills. A good educator who is trustworthy and willing to share information and serve as a mentor. An excellent negotiator who is experienced in managed care contracting. A decisive individual who possesses a "big picture" perspective and is well versed in systems.

Bachelors degree or equivalent; more than four of work experience and/or training; and at least 2 years of some laboratory management or training experience.

• Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret research documents. Ability to respond effectively to feedback or provide feedback to trainees. Ability to draft and/or write protocols, abstracts and manuscripts. Ability to present scientific data to laboratory group and/or collaborators

Ability to perform math skills to generate solutions, compounds and other needs to molecular biology studies.
