Job Summary

This position is for an in-house international tax consulting resource that spans multiple taxation functions. The individual will work as part of the team responsible for providing comprehensive income tax reporting and compliance services to the Arch group, with a focus on global operations. The role includes responsibilities related to the evolving Pillar 2 Global Minimum Tax requirements, investment tax, global M&A, newly enacted Bermuda Income Tax and global mobility tax considerations. The successful candidate will advise tax functional leaders with the research needed to achieve tax strategies and goals as detailed by the global head of tax. This position requires significant international experience including mastery of pillar 2 and the newly enacted Bermuda tax law.

Responsibilities

  • Pillar 2 (“P2” global minimum tax): The individual will be the in-house technical P2 resource and will support the project manager in overseeing the practical P2 requirements of implementing jurisdictions (elections, filings, summarizing planning, etc.) Additionally, the individual will provide P2 support from a US GAAP provision perspective and P2 support as it relates to M&A interactions. Mastery of P2 technical skills is required.
  • Investment Tax: The individual will provide support in reviewing entity placement of alternative investments, prepare strategy decks that factor Pillar 2 into planning, and provide technical tax support in the Alternatives space. Mastery of understanding treaty, Permanent Establishment, and other cross-board considerations for investment decisions is required.
  • Global M&A:  The individual will provide technical international guidance to support Global M&A endeavors. Mastery of international M&A laws is required.
  • International GAAP Provisions: The individual will support the ACS global provision team by reviewing international tax provisions including UK, Ireland, Canada, and Australian provisions. Mastery of US GAAP tax accounting principles is required.
  • Bermuda Tax:  The individual will be responsible for all Bermuda provision and compliance requirements. This includes preparation of local US GAAP provisions, preparation of local income tax estimates, documentation of SEC SOX controls and the preparation / review of Bermuda local tax returns (potentially in conjunction with a 3rd party service provider). To successfully execute on these responsibilities, the individual will lead interactions with the CITA, and coordinate with the Global Head of Tax and all other ACS VPs and local finance leaders. Detailed knowledge of the recent Bermuda tax guidance and mastery of Pillar 2 is required.
  • Permanent Establishment (“PE”) / Global Mobility: The individual will support the ACS tax team in the review of the Company PE guidelines and will assist with ad hoc questions related to PE and global mobility that arise throughout the year. Mastery of United States Permanent Establishment laws is required.

Required Skills

  • 15+ years of public accounting and/or in-house corporate tax experience with a focus on ASC 740.
  • Mastery of Pillar 2 taxation.
  • Mastery of Investment tax laws for Non-US headquartered companies.
  • Significant experience with cross-border mergers and acquisitions.
  • Detailed understanding of the Bermuda Tax Code.
  • Experience with permanent establishment taxation and the tax complexity global mobility.
  • Strong general accounting knowledge and understanding of tax implications to the general ledger and financial statements.
  • In-depth knowledge of tax law, practices and compliance methods and strategies.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and demonstrate effective time management.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a strong operational focus.
  • Data analysis and data extraction skills, including advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Desired Skills

  • Experience in property, casualty and/or mortgage insurance or reinsurance operations.
  • Experience implementing tax regulations into tax provision and compliance operations.
  • Experience working with external auditors, internal controls and compliance-related issues.
