ABOUT THE JOB

As Carrier Integration Engineer, you will work with many different disciplines to develop Group 5 unmanned aircraft including Navy ship- and carrier-based platforms. You will analyze and decompose requirements and perform trades to influence design, analysis, and testing. You will collaborate with the customer and work with platform and ground segment design teams to inform integration into the carrier environment including approaches to launch and recovery, deck handling, MD-5 Ground Control Station (GCS), communication modes with the ship (including EMCON), and carrier qualification testing. Additionally, it is preferred that the candidate have working knowledge in DoD flight clearance and Airworthiness (AW) certification processes including experience working with NAVAIRINST 13034.1 and the NAVAIR Airworthiness and Cyber Security Safety Office (ACO) to obtain Interim Flight Clearance (IFC), AW certifications, and/or CYBERSAFE certifications for manned or unmanned aircraft.

Where applicable, you will work to tailor requirements with data-driven decisions and customer collaboration. This will enable rapid and more-informed design, analysis, and system-level trade studies to develop and deliver a safe and effective weapon system. The right person for this role has thorough knowledge of shipboard aircraft requirements and procedures, carrier-based manned or unmanned aircraft development and integration experience, and military or civilian experience working on a U.S. Navy carrier or surface vessel, preferably related to aircraft integration, deck handling, and / or test. If you are someone who has this combination of skills and experience, then this role is for you.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Carrier-based aircraft and overall weapon system requirements, design, analysis, test, validation, and support from conceptual design through deployment
  • Work with program and engineering leadership to help understand requirements and influence design, analysis, and testing to ensure aircraft carrier compatibility, suitability, and qualification
  • Work with program and engineering leadership and collaborate with customer principals to ensure that development and test activities address flight certification requirements and progress in a manner that prepares for and reduces risk of obtaining appropriate AW and CYBERSAFE certificates
  • Positively influence design, analysis, and test decisions with data-driven trades and tailoring of carrier suitability requirements that impact design complexity, weight, performance, cost, and schedule
  • Work with cross-IPT disciplines such as Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, Systems Safety, Configuration Design, Mass Properties, Propulsion, Aerodynamics/Performance, GNC (Guidance, Navigation & Controls), Loads & Dynamics, Airframe, Subsystems (Landing / Arresting Gear, Mechanisms, Fuel, Hydraulics, Electrical, Flight Controls), Survivability, Mission Systems, Manufacturing, and Test

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS or higher degree from an accredited course of study in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Information Technology, and/or Computer Science

  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Systems Engineering
  • Thorough understanding and experience with deriving weapon system and aircraft requirements based on current and legacy Navy documents such as SD-24M, NAEC-MISC-06900, and JSSG
  • Military or civilian experience working on a U.S. Navy carrier, preferably related to aircraft integration, deck handling, and / or test
