The Activities and Recreation Center’s Intramural Staff are a key to the success of the Intramural Activities Program. Intramural Staff oversee the program by supervising and officiating all organized sports and activities. No officiating experience needed. Individuals participate in officiating a variety of sports, leading captain’s meetings, program promotions, and peer evaluation. They are responsible for on-site risk management, enforce all department policies, and provide on-going constructive space for participants and program improvement. Staff must be able to implement policies and playing rules in order to maintain an appropriate level of control, fairness, and safety. 

Being Intramural Student Staff is a time commitment of a full academic year with a maximum of 12 hours per week. That time is used to assist in the planning and administration of the Intramural Activities Program, supervise intramural events, officiate games, and have regularly scheduled staff meetings. Those selected for this position will have extensive training so they will be prepared to complete their duties and responsibilities successfully.

Duties & Responsibilities

Support Intramural Leagues and Events (70% of Job Duties) 

  • Attend Fall training, retreat, and additional trainings sessions 

  • Attend regularly scheduled team meetings 

  • Officiate leagues, tournaments, & events 

  • Assist in hosting and/or organizing virtual events 

  • Assist in needs assessments and data collections (e.g., Focus groups, surveys) 

  • Explicit knowledge and enforcement of Intramural policies and sport rules 

  • Self-selected task to support the program or compliment individual skills such as graphic creation, video editing, training task, etc. 

 

Intramural Specialty Groups/ Task (20% of Job Duties) 

  • Serve as leader, or co-leader, of Intramural Specialty group to manage and ensure communication between individual Packs and Program Manager and/or other student total staff 

  • Self-selected participation in Intramural Specialty Groups (Packs) to assist in student administration within program. These groups include: Programming, Marketing & Staff Engagement. 

 

Additional Tasks (10% of Job Duties) 

  • Serve as a resource for participants 

  • Advertise leagues and events to students 

  • Distribution of promotional or marketing materials 

  • Maintain communication between the office and campus community 

  • Assist in completing daily reports, scoresheets, equipment checkout, and other required paperwork 

  • Coordinate with Program Manager of Intramurals and Facilities to assess the desires and needs of the campus community

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled at least 6 hours at Cascadia College
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to actively listen and empathize with others
  • Positive attitude and willingness to the put outside of comfort zone
  • Flexibility with schedules through the duration of the job
  • Willing and able to work nights and weekends 

All new student employees must also complete UW's online Title IX course about preventing and responding to sex-and gender-based violence and harassment.
