THE JOB: 

The Veterinarian Assistant is a position that is primarily responsible for assisting the Ohio State Racing Commission Veterinarian with the testing and post-race care of the horses at Northfield Park.

THE STARTING RATE: $16.46 per hour

THE DAY-TO-DAY: 

• Assist with blood draws on the assigned horses, labeling blood tubes and filling out appropriate paperwork

• Obtain urine samples for testing purposes using sterile methods and techniques that include whistling, walking and/or applying a muzzle and blinkers

• Packaging samples with sterile techniques per the OSRC’s standards
• Clean and prep the working stalls in the State Barn
• Must be comfortable with working with horses and their various personalities

 

 THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:  

• Has experience with horses
• Able to lift up to 40 lbs
• Has experience with Microsoft Office
• Must have a strong work ethic, dedication to Northfield Park and a commitment to the racing industry

• Has the ability to maintain a calm, composed presence in an often-challenging environment where multiple tasks and events may occur simultaneously
• Must be able to obtain an Ohio State Racing Commission license
