  • Schedule:  20 hours/week, flexible hours but ideally with some overlap with  9 - 5pm EST for meetings

Job Description

This is an exceptional opportunity for a skilled bookkeeper to join a thriving accounting practice during an exciting expansion phase. You’ll work directly with modern cloud-based accounting systems, supporting multiple clients while having the unique opportunity to grow your skills and responsibilities alongside the business. The role offers a clear progression path from part-time to full-time work, with extensive training opportunities and the chance to develop expertise in various areas of accounting and financial management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping operations using QuickBooks and other advanced cloud-based accounting platforms
  • Process financial transactions with precision and maintain impeccable records for a diverse client portfolio
  • Support payroll processing and related financial operations
  • Contribute to month-end and year-end closing procedures with attention to detail
  • Collaborate closely with the firm owner to ensure exceptional client service and account management
  • Participate in comprehensive training programs to expand your skill set and take on increasingly complex responsibilities
  • Assist with special projects related to business growth and client acquisition integration

Requirements

Core Accounting Skills:
  • Knowledge of Canadian accounting principles (ASPE)
  • Experience preparing/reviewing financial statements & working papers
  • Bookkeeping experience 
  • Tax prep: T1 (personal) & T2 (corporate)
  • GST/HST filing & compliance
Technical / Software:
  • QBO (QuickBooks Online)
  • Zoho (Books or CRM)
  • CaseWare / CaseWare Cloud
  • TaxPrep or CCH iFirm (Canadian tax software)
  • Canopy (practice management)
  • Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, etc.)
  • Comfortable using AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Copilot)
Soft Skills:
  • Strong written & verbal English
  • Detail-oriented, organized, deadline-driven
  • Self-starter; works well independently
  • Comfortable in remote/hybrid settings
Bonus / Nice-to-Have:
  • Work full EST hours
  • Client communication experience 
  • Exposure to Canadian tax planning / cross-border
  • Prior public practice experience
