Your Specific Responsibilities:

The incumbent is part of a global public health organization and is expected to support the Florida Department of Health in its mission to protect, promote, and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county and community efforts and its vision to be the Healthiest State in the Nation. The incumbent in this position will be responsible for providing technical guidance to county health department TB Control Programs. This position covers Polk, Hardee, Manatee, Hillsborough, Sumter, Citrus, Hernando, Pasco and Pinellas counties.   The position is assigned and administratively supervised by the Polk CHD. The position as a shared resource between CHDs in assigned region, requires strong case management skills, ability to work independently, ability to manage multiple program and policy issues simultaneously, and excellent communication skills. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing activities associated with surveillance and investigation of suspected and confirmed tuberculosis. Incumbent may have access to records containing social security numbers in the performance of job duties.

Surveillance Activities- Responsible for ensuring timeliness, accuracy and completeness of TB related data contained in the Florida Departments of Health’s Health Management System (HMS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Report of a Verified Case of Tuberculosis (RVCT), the CDC Aggregate Report for Program Evaluation (ARPE) and the CDC Electronic Disease notification (EDN) Reporting System in the assigned counties. These duties will be achieved by:

  • Completes and/or conducts a data quality assurance review of all RVCTs and EDN reports upon submission from the CHDs, rejecting submissions as necessary and communicating/educating the reason(s) for rejection to the CHD staff member assigned responsibility for completing the form locally.
  • Works with appropriate CHD staff members to address issues identified by the “alerts” generated by the TB Control Section in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes tools available on the restricted TB Control Section’s SharePoint site to identify and resolve incomplete reporting or documentation by the CHD, assess and shares reasons for negative outcomes with CHD and provides periodic CHD-specific performance reports, as requested or required.
  • Submits High Profile Notification Forms to the TB Control Section as required and within defined timelines.
  • Generation of county-specific demographic and performance reports as requested or warranted by CHD Directors and/or Administrators, Completes surveillance reports as applicable.

Technical and On-site Assistance/Mentoring – Incumbent will provide technical assistance as requested and warranted to local CHD staff responsible for the duties listed below in the assigned counties.  This assistance will be with, but not limited to, the following:

  • Contact investigations, lost and delinquent investigations (return to or initial care), documentation in HMS, Surveillance reporting (RVCT/EDN), Inter-jurisdictional Notifications (incoming and outgoing), Acquiring incentives and enablers,
  • Identifying potential providers of temporary housing or inspection of identified housing for appropriateness.
  • Recommendations for resolution of identified TB program related issues, community partner outreach
