WSP, an award winning and innovative multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, is looking for a Assistant Vice President – Lead Building Performance Consultant for the Built Ecology team in New York, NY. Other locations considered include Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Boston, and Washington DC. Our team works closely with organizations, owners, developers, architects, and tenants from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability, health, resilience, user experience, and operational efficiency in the built environment.

Built Ecology is WSP’s national Built Environment Sustainability practice, providing a broad range of services including sustainability strategy and planning, target-setting and workshop facilitation, high-performance design assistance, computational building performance analysis, building certifications, energy and GHG master planning, and building performance verification. We work across a wide range of project types and scales, from master planning and district infrastructure to building design and construction, to ongoing performance and operations. Built Ecology has been directly responsible for driving many leading projects across the globe, including LEED Platinum buildings, Living Building Challenge and WELL projects, Net Zero energy and water projects, EcoDistricts, corporate programs, and improvements for large building portfolios.  Our solutions are typically innovative, integrated, data-driven, and practical.

Our team brings a structured approach while also identifying unique opportunities on each project. We influence strategic decisions to achieve sustainable outcomes in buildings, neighborhoods, and organizations.

Your Impact
  • Direct, facilitate, and support multidisciplinary project team to establish high performance, general sustainability, and Net Zero goals, including leading and overseeing the development of various technical models beyond basic whole building energy modeling
  • Work closely with MEP design teams and project managers to define a pathway to exceeding local codes and stretch codes
  • Direct, facilitate, and support multidisciplinary project team to establish high performance, general sustainability, and Net Zero goals, including leading and overseeing the development of various technical models beyond basic whole building energy modeling
  • Utilize energy and GHG modeling tools to complete carbon modeling and develop net zero carbon road maps
  • Interpret climate information and building use typologies to inform building design strategies
  • Provide LEED and other certifications strategy and advice, particularly around energy
  • Develop and provide quality control reviews for Built Ecology deliverables related to energy and climate strategy, planning, analysis, and implementation
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of our project delivery standards, to ensure a high quality of work is consistently delivered by the national team
  • Provide quality control reviews for Built Ecology analysis and deliverables
  • Strengthen WSP’s relationships with existing clients and develop new clients
  • Have a leadership presence in the industry and support business development  
  • Integrate with all aspects of the business to weave sustainability into all our service offerings  
  • Manage and support staff
  • Produce or oversee the production of high quality, visually compelling deliverables 
     

Ideal candidates will exhibit the following characteristics:

  • Passionate about creating a sustainable, healthy, resilient, and equitable built environment
  • Expertise in high-performance MEP systems, building science, high-performance façades, and energy codes
  • Expertise with analytic tools to support various aspects of high-performance design, stretch code compliance, decarbonization strategy, climate-responsive design, adavnced building systems analysis, whole building energy and daylight modeling, parametric modeling, operational carbon analysis, envelope modeling, climate assessments, renewable energy analysis, district energy simulations, embodied energy analysis, etc.
  • Passionate about mentoring, and supporting individuals across WSP’s national sustainability team
  • Committed to collaborating with and supporting the growth of our integrated national team
  • Presents ideas and solutions that are clear, concise, comprehensive, creative, and compelling
  • Uses integrative thinking and problem-solving 
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor and/or master’s degree in a technical built environment sustainability or building design-related discipline
  • 10+ years of experience providing sustainability and high-performance design c
