Purpose

The Learning Specialist III at the Sanger Learning Center plays a crucial role in supporting student learning. This position works with the Course Support and Instruction Team to coordinate the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program, including supervising and training student educators, developing relationships with departmental stakeholders across campus, and innovating the program to meet the evolving needs of students. The Learning Specialist III also provides direct academic counseling to students in one-on-one sessions. This position requires strong communication skills, creativity, and strategic thinking in supporting student success.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision: Supervises and supports the training and professional development of undergraduate and graduate student educators. Manages performance, provides feedback, attends weekly team meetings, conducts performance evaluations, and manages corrective and disciplinary action as needed.
  • Administration: Collaborates with departments to identify relevant courses, publicize the SI program, communicate outcomes, and recruit and hire students. Ensures timely and accurate communications are disseminated to campus stakeholders. Organizes SI-related events and maintains programmatic records. Ensures student educator compliance with departmental policy.
  • Direct Student Support: Provides direct service to students, teaches Sanger Learning Center classes and workshops, and provides academic counseling.
  • Assessment and Reporting: Supports supervisor with SI-specific and center-wide data collection and assessment planning.
  • Professional Development: Maintains, participates, and contributes to current knowledge of academic support, theory, and best practices and serves on internal and external committees as needed.
  • Other related functions as assigned


Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in learning development and at least three (3) years of experience in teaching or clinical experience in learning development. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in a STEM-related field. At least one (1) year experience in coordinating student programming and counseling students' academic skills. Experience teaching in higher education. Experience training or supervising undergraduate student educators and/or graduate teaching assistants. Demonstrated knowledge in student learning, curriculum development, and learning strategies instruction. Work experience creating student-centered learning materials for classroom and training purposes. Experience with research methods and/or learning outcomes assessment. Demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects and meet deadlines. Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills

Salary Range

$50,000 + depending on qualifications
