What you'll do...
The Senior Data Scientist will play a critical role in Sam’s Club’s Media Access Platform (MAP) team, focusing on the development of advanced analytics, predictive modeling, frameworks, and measurement solutions to support sales and supplier success. This individual will work closely with key suppliers, campaign managers, media activation, product, and engineering teams to deliver actionable insights, optimize media performance, and drive innovation.
MAP is a very fast-growing area and important to Sam's overall strategy. This role would serve a vital role working with the MAP sales team and third-party suppliers to determine how to deliver the most effective ads to members. The role requires hands on analytics skills, working knowledge in statistical and business intelligence tools, coding, and automation, media domain experience, business acumen, problem solving skills as well as strong communication and presentation skills.
What You’ll Do:
- Analyze retail media campaign performance across various channels, providing actionable insights to optimize spend and ROI.
- Lead strategic analytics and AI automation efforts for business partners, including campaign measurement and predictive modeling.
- Perform hands-on modeling and complex analyses using Python, Databricks, SQL and/or R.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and visualizations using Tableau, PowerBI, or equivalent tools to communicate insights effectively.
- Apply Large Language Models (LLMs) to automate campaign insights, generate reports, and build Q&A systems for internal teams and suppliers.
- Design and implement intelligent analytics workflows that translate business questions into actionable insights.
- Explain complex analytics outputs in simple, actionable terms to internal teams and suppliers.
- Partner with product, engineering, and sales stakeholders to develop novel AI solutions that guide decision-making and generate insights to drive revenue and efficiency.
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives by developing and applying AI-driven analytics tools that support campaign strategies and business decisions.
- Lead initiatives to standardize processes, create reusable frameworks, and scale analytics capabilities across the team.
What You’ll Bring:
- Prior experience in data science, analytics, or modeling with a strong background in retail media or digital advertising analytics.
- Ability to distill complex findings into clear, actionable recommendations for suppliers, campaign managers, and business stakeholders.
- Strong coding skills in Python, SQL, and/or R, with the ability to write production-level code.
- Experience in predictive modeling, measurement frameworks, and AI automation.
- Proficiency in dashboard development and data visualization (PowerBI, Tableau, etc.).
- Experience in developing large language models (LLMs) application, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
- Strong problem-solving skills and business acumen to balance technical and strategic priorities.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with stakeholders across sales, product, engineering, and suppliers.
- A collaborative mindset, curiosity, and a passion for working in a fast-paced, agile environment.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
- Prior experience working with CPG large suppliers or high-stakes client-facing analytics.
- Experience in developing frameworks, best practices, or reusable analytics solutions.
- 2+ years in media analytics or retail media domain.
- Experience applying LLMs or AI/ML solutions to business problems.
- Hands-on experience with Text-to-SQL based application.
