Postion Overview
The Illinois Department of Transportation seeks to hire Highway Maintainers to perform a variety of tasks related to bridge maintenance.
Essential Functions
- Operates light and heavy vehicles and equipment and receives direction in the repair methods and techniques related to highway bridges.
- Operates equipment and performs duties related to maintaining pump stations, pumps and deep wells.
- Operates CDL Class A licensed trucks, tractors, mowing machines, snowplows, spreaders, compressors, specialized bridge inspection equipment, pump and deep well equipment and other highway equipment.
- Performs routine service of equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowing machines, snowplows and spreaders, compressors, specialized bridge inspection equipment, pump and deep well equipment, and other highway equipment.
- Performs routine housekeeping duties in headquarters, pump stations, and deepwell sites.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school.
- Requires possession of a Class “A” CDL with appropriate endorsements, to include X or N and no airbrake restrictions.
- Requires one year driving experience immediately preceding appointment free of incidents which could result in license suspension or revocation.
