A Brief Overview
Performs reception and a variety of clerical functions and tasks utilizing specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital procedures related to department specific needs. Provides basic patient care under the direction of a licensed nurse as required. Provides high quality care to the following patient populations: Adult, Medical/Surgical, Geriatric, and Telemetry.
What you will do
- Greet visitors and callers to ascertain purpose of visit or call, and direct them to appropriate staff.
- Facilitate admissions, discharges and transfers in collaboration with other staff.
- Operate office equipment such as: nurse call, fax, scanners, photocopier, computer system, telephone system, and telemetry.
- Perform various clerical and administrative functions, such as ordering and maintaining an inventory of supplies.
- Perform quality checks on equipment.
- Transport specimens and blood products.
- Adhere to safety practices for own personal protection, i.e. gloves for blood product pickup.
- Flexibility in unit assignment as directed by patient care needs.
- Demonstrate accurate keyboarding proficiency and computer navigation skills.
Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
- Completion of C.N.A course if currently in high school. Required
- Medical Terminology course or within one year of hire Preferred
- 1-3 years computer classes/experience Preferred
- 1-3 years previous experience in the medical field Preferred
- Prefer computer classes/experience
- Prefer previous experience in the medical field
- Prefer Medical Terminology course
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

- Certified Nursing Assistant Preferred
Qualifications:
MCU - Will not take telemetry patients, CNA course completion is required for MCU. May be required to go into airborne isolation (wear N95 or air mate).
