Team Description
The Sabre Legal Department is a dynamic group of professionals responsible for providing legal advice to the Company in conducting business ethically and in compliance with laws around the world. Sabre is seeking a skilled and motivated commercial attorney to join our legal team. The successful applicant should be a generalist with deep knowledge of commercial law and contract law. This individual will be responsible for providing legal counsel to the organization on general commercial law matters as a part of supporting commercial contracting for both the Americas and European Sales teams, primarily in the customer/supplier GDS Airline (GDS Air) and Land, Ground & Sea (GDS LGS) business units. This role will also provide ancillary support for regulatory, data privacy, intellectual property, and other areas of law specific to the technology travel industry. The position will report to Sabre’s VP and Associate General Counsel for Commercial Legal Support.
Role and Responsibilities
- Draft and negotiate GDS Air and GDS LGS supply agreements in support of global business goals in the Americas and EMEA.
- Advise GDS Air and GDS LGS Sales and other supporting functions within the organization on complex contractual and commercial matters, as well as legal issues involving regulatory law.
- Respond to ad hoc queries to include identification, analysis, and evaluation of risks to provide appropriate legal solutions.
- Interpret complex business needs and translate them into clear and concise contract language to establish new contracting templates and playbooks.
- Work with the Regional and Global Legal teams, including Commercial, Privacy, and Compliance & Ethics, to identify common concerns, establish common standards, and educate on best practices.
- Support the development of processes, procedures, and tools (including contract lifecycle management tools) that effectively operationalize Legal best practices, as well as the build out and execution of any related team member training.
- Coordinate legal matters handled by outside counsel, as needed.
- Other responsibilities as assigned, which may include support of the Airline IT and/or Agency business units.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Law degree from a top institution.
- Over 20 years of legal experience, preferably in an in-house environment for a travel-related company.
- Deep knowledge of New York and/or Delaware law; experience in commercial and contract law.
- Experience in a fast-paced, global organization; willing to be flexible and able to function within ambiguity.
- Comfortable navigating change: willing to work irregular hours when required, as this position may support two distinct geographic areas.
- An enterprise mindset while being able to focus on details; ensure work supports the needs of the broader business while minimizing risk.
- Significant autonomy will be given to the successful applicant; as such, this attorney is expected to self-motivate and operate with minimal oversight.
- Strong leadership presence and the ability to provide direction and quickly gain the confidence of business clients.
- Practical and creative problem analysis and resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to simultaneously handle multiple tasks and prioritize work as needed to meet business needs.
- Superior command of the English language (written and spoken) required.
- Experience in the technology and/or travel industry.
- Knowledge and/or experience with commercial contracting and/or regulatory law in the Americas and EMEA.
- Other language skills preferred.
