Serials Management Associate, Duke Library
Position Summary
This position performs a variety of complex and specialized functions to facilitate the work of the Serials Management Team within the Electronic Resources & Serials Acquisitions Department including preparing print serials and periodicals for binding; assisting with continuing resource acquisitions workflows; and processing invoices for payment. This position requires routine use of problem solving and communication skills to maintain the integrity of and resolve problems with Electronic Resources & Serials Acquisitions’ data. This position serves as liaison to library staff outside of Electronic Resources & Serials Acquisitions on matters related to periodicals binding and continuing resource acquisitions.
Responsibilities
- Prepares serials and periodicals for binding, including processing of physical items and updating records in library systems. Analyzes and resolves issues related to serials and periodicals binding.
- Assists Serials Management Team colleagues in processing continuing resource renewals and changes (e.g. cessations, vendor, publisher, and format changes), processing them in library systems and in Trello.
- Critically examines invoices for accuracy and processes them for payment within library systems.
- Contributes to creation and maintenance of order records, subscription records, serials holdings and item records, check-in and claiming.
- Leverages serials management knowledge by working on special projects as needed, including but not limited to large-scale record clean up in library systems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:
Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Experience:
Required: Requires two years of library experience to obtain a specialized knowledge of library systems and procedures; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; able to work independently and as a member of a team; high proficiency using computer-based technology and ability to adapt to new technologies; ability to effectively organize and prioritize daily work; demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer services.
Preferred: Prior experience working in an academic research library
