Job Description
Job Purpose
As a Principal Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of next-generation automation and digital solutions, from R&D pilot lines to full-scale factories. This role combines expertise in automation, robotics, process control engineering, smart sensors and advanced diagnostic tools, and digital transformation to deliver full-scale automated processes and advanced process control. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to implement Automation and Digital Solutions that enhance operational efficiency, product and package quality, and sustainability.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Architect and standardize automation and control systems in support of a smart pilot plant.
Manage the research, evaluation and implementation of smart sensors, measurement technology, imaging systems and data acquisition to facilitate the design, development and manufacture of innovative new process and packaging systems.
Explore IoT sensors for real-time monitoring and pilot high-impact tools in controlled environments (e.g. predictive modeling and machine learning for packaging and process optimization).
Develop, validate, and deploy full-scale automated processes and automation concepts.
Support the development of digital twins and simulation models for process and packaging systems.
Deliver and develop advanced process control and predictive analytics.
Develop and deploy physical AI and robotic solutions for manufacturing optimization.
Collaborate with engineering and production teams to embed intelligence into manufacturing workflows.
Ensure compliance with food safety, cybersecurity, and data governance standards.
Expected Experience & Required Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automation, Controls, Mechatronics, or related field required; Masters in Science preferred
6-8 years in automation/controls with multi-site or pilot-to-plant experience
Proven track record in Industry 4.0, digital twin/discrete event simulation and machine learning/advanced process control deployments
Strong knowledge of industrial communications and OT/IT integration
Demonstrated knowledge of implementing smart sensors and in-line, advanced diagnostic measurement tools
Experience with food processing and CPG packaging systems
Work Environment & Schedule
This position is considered a Normal office environment with moderate travel to customer locations, stores, manufacturing facilities, etc.; offices are open workspaces

New Hire Base Salary Range:
$104,200.00 - $130,200.00Bonus: This position is eligible for a performance-based bonus as provided by the plan terms and governing documents.
