About the role

Description

Catholic Charities Emergency Family Shelter provides shelter, support, and hope to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Our shelter offers a safe and welcoming environment, as well as essential resources to help our guests get back on their feet. We are looking for compassionate individuals to join our team and make a real difference in the lives of those we serve.


We are currently seeking shelter staff to help us in our mission of assisting the homeless population. As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of our guests. Your responsibilities will include providing direct support to individuals staying at the shelter, ensuring a clean and secure environment, and offering assistance with various needs.   Work schedules may encompass evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays based on vacancies. Presently, there is a particular focus on providing coverage during evenings and overnights.     


Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and check-in guests, providing a warm and respectful environment.
  • Oversee the shelter during assigned shifts, ensuring a safe and orderly atmosphere.
  • Assist with basic needs, such as meals, bedding, and access to resources.
  • Engage with guests in a supportive and empathetic manner, offering resources and referrals.
  • Collaborate with shelter volunteers to maintain a welcoming and organized space.
  • Perform routine cleaning duties in client rooms, common areas, and shared spaces.   
  • Maintain accurate records of shelter activities and resident interactions. 
  • Collaborate with fellow staff members to ensure a cohesive and supportive team environment. 

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • High level of commitment to working assigned shifts and punctuality
  • Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards individuals experiencing homelessness. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of guests and volunteers.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting.
  • Familiarity with fundamental meal preparation, sanitation and cleaning practices.
  • Previous experience in a homeless shelter or social service setting is a plus.
