Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Sr. Geotechnical Engineer to serve as a technical leader on transportation projects with the focus on design for our Clifton, NJ team.  This job can be worked remotely from the United States and will require occasional travel to our New York Metro locations (NJ/NY).

This role is available immediately.

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead Geotechnical Engineer on projects responsible for overseeing design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and technical specifications for assigned projects.
  • Prepare subsurface exploration programs, laboratory assignments and preparing geotechnical reports.
  • Evaluate ground conditions and understand their impacts on design and construction. 
  • Provide guidance to entry level Engineers and other staff to lead to completion of projects.
  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
  • Independently perform all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
  • Lead/manage geotechnical engineering investigations.
  • Perform pile analysis, slope stability, settlement analysis, ground improvements and seepage analysis.
  • Utilize computer software programs, such as: APILE, LPILE, GROUP, SEEPW, SLOPEW and GRLWEAP.
  • Prepare geotechnical engineering reports and construction documents.
  • This position will work both independently and in teams.
  • Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team.
  • Provide specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Perform quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
  • Will work with and coordinate staff to meet project needs and schedule.
  • Meet with Clients.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering or related + 6 years of related experience and/or education or demonstrated equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • NY PE highly preferred and NJ PE nice to have
  • Master of Science or PhD. in Civil Engineering desirable
  • 10 years of experience preferred, but not required
  • Experience with NYSDOT, and NJDOT a big plus, but not required
  • Ability to prepare geotechnical engineering reports and construction documents
  • Competent analysis/design experience with slope stability (Computer software – Slope W), retaining walls, shallow and deep foundations (Computer Software: APile, Group, Lpile), experience with Seepage analysis (Computer software: SeepW), settlement analysis, Bulkhead and Support of Excavation Analysis
  • Strong computer skills including extensive knowledge of technical software; PLAXIS or MIDAS preferred
  • Willingness and ability to travel to the NJ/NY offices on an occasional basis.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience and work location. The salary range for this position is $130,000 - $145,000. Please note that this role can be based anywhere in the United States and compensation data will vary in each location.
