Job Description

AECOM is seeking a talented and experienced Environmental Scientist IV to oversee environmental remediation projects. The candidate will work from the Fort Lauderdale, FL office. This position will support the Environmental business line, primarily working on Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Petroleum Restoration Program projects.

The successful candidate will join a large established team conducting environmental site assessment and remediation projects across the Southeast Region. This position requires excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational and time management skills, flexibility to work on a range of projects, and a positive attitude. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management, and have the ability to work both independently and as a part of a project team.

The successful candidate will assume a deputy project manager role within the department and will develop strong relationships with the team, and with clients to enable the pursuit of new opportunities. The successful candidate will be committed to the team’s success and growth; will rigorously apply safety policies and procedures; will manage the technical, cost and schedule elements of project delivery; and will effectively manage the quality of field efforts and project deliverables within the bounds of the AECOM Quality Management System.

The job responsibilities for the position will include but are not limited to:

  • Familiar with project invoicing and cash flow management
  • Manages and directs professional and technical staff to complete complex environmental projects
  • Leads teams by utilizing advanced scientific principles, theories, and practices
  • Utilizes existing technologies and past experience to develop technical solutions to complex problems
  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance
  • Analyzes financial statements and completes budget tracking
  • Performs work with minimal direction with periodic reporting to area manager
  • Oversees the preparation of work plans and organizes project studies
  • Performs complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems with the support of the project team
  • Supervises junior and mid-level staff during all phases of project work
  • Conducts reviews and provides staff feedback for continued improvement

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS in Environmental Science or related field + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid U.S Driver's License and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review.
  • Occasional overnight travel required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in Environmental Science 
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in environmental remediation (soil and water) project management
  • Experience with regulator and stakeholder negotiations
  • Experience successfully managing environmental projects under FDEP’s Petroleum Restoration Program
  • Thorough working knowledge of Chapter 62-780, Florida Administrative Code
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and communication, both verbal and written skills
  • Experience in team management and scheduling of staff and resources to ensure on time and on budget project delivery
  • Superior communication, writing, editing, and reporting skills for a wide variety of audiences
  • Experience preparing proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and change orders
  • Interest in business development
