Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a NEPA Compliance Specialist (Water) to join our Environmental Planning Group.  In this role you’ll have the opportunity to join an interdisciplinary team to support National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, state-level equivalent reviews, and environmental permitting primarily on water resources planning projects by: leading the preparation and review of reports related to NEPA documents; directing staff and overseeing deliverables; ensuring projects are on schedule and budget; interacting with public and agency stakeholders; and more.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in contributing to and leading complex environmental studies and permitting efforts for water resources, water infrastructure, or ecological restoration planning projects. This position requires excellent communication, technical, and writing skills; attention to detail; and the ability to work independently and as a part of an interdisciplinary team.

Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Manages or assists in the management of complex NEPA and permitting efforts
  • Assesses the need for or the data adequacy of technical studies and management plans
  • Uses knowledge of planning and NEPA regulations for Department of the Interior and other federal agencies to advise clients
  • Plans, implements, and facilitates public and agency meetings
  • Conducts research and prepares technical reports on water, land use, or other physical, biological, or social resource discipline
  • Reviews environmental reports prepared by interdisciplinary team members to ensure quality and legal adequacy
  • Must be able to work collaboratively to implement multiple ongoing projects to successful completion

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental policy, planning, economics, or a related field and 6+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education           

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of relevant experience with NEPA compliance especially with water resources planning work; or environmental permitting and technical report writing
  • Project experience with water resources infrastructure, planning, and operations projects on federal lands
  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge of federal environmental laws and their implementing regulations, including, but not limited to: NEPA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Endangered Species Act, and the National Historic Preservation Act
  • Specific resource expertise (for example, hydrology, geology, land use, recreation)
  • Knowledge of current issues and projects related to the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, Forest Service, or other federal agencies
  • Excellent organization and time-management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Additional Information

  • Exempt Position: Offered rate of compensation in Utah will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $85,000 – $125,000.
