Job Description:
The Assistant professor will work with the clinical technical staff and faculty in wildlife to manage clinical cases and conduct wildlife related research within the veterinary teaching hospital. In addition, this position will teach professional and graduate students research and clinical topics. The position also requires the faculty to develop and maintain their own successful research program focused on OneHealth.
Job Responsibilities:
50% - The Assistant Professor will be responsible for managing clinical cases, including performing examinations, diagnostic procedures, medical therapies, and surgeries on wildlife cases presented to the Wildlife Hospital of Louisiana. The employee will be responsible for keeping the medical records up-to-date and communicating with the technical staff and faculty in the Wildlife Hospital of Louisiana about the cases through regular (daily/weekly) rounds. The employee will also teach clinical year veterinary students and oversee them during their time in the Wildlife Hospital of Louisiana. They will have daily rounds with the students and assist with case management and treatments.
25% - The Assistant Professor will a develop a research program focused on OneHealth and wildlife conservation medicine. As part of this research program, the Assistant Professor will train graduate students in MS and PhD programs, serving as both a chair and committee member for graduate programs. The Assistant Professor will also work with other faculty and professional students on OneHealth and wildlife specific research.
10% - The Assistant Professor will participate in didactic course teaching for professional and graduate students at the School of Veterinary Medicine.
10% - The Assistant Professor is expected to participate in service by participating in Wildlife Hospital of Louisiana, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, and/or School of Veterinary Medicine service and committee work.
5% - Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
DVM and 4 years of experience.
Degree substitute - BVetmed and MVetmed
Specific Experience - Clinical training in wildlife medicine.
Certifications and Licenses - State faculty license to practice veterinary medicine.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in OneHealth, epidemiology, or conservation medicine with 4+ years of clinical training.
Specific Experience - 3+ years of clinical experience in wildlife medicine.

Emergency Essential Personnel - This position may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.

Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center.
