About the role

Wells Fargo is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer (Frontend) within Digital Onboarding team to design, develop, and lead modern, scalable frontend applications. This role requires deep expertise in current frontend technologies, strong architectural skills, and the ability to mentor engineers while partnering closely with product, design, and backend teams.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact

  • Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large-scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines

  • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs

  • Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors

  • Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives

  • Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals

  • Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 4 years of experience in JavaScript/TypeScript and optimizing build performance at scale

  • 4 years of experience with front-end frameworks, such as React

  • 3 years of component‑based architecture experience

  • 3 years of state management (Redux, Zustand, NgRx, etc.) experience

  • 5 years of modern CSS (CSS3, Flexbox, Grid, preprocessors, CSS‑in‑JS) experience

  • 3 years of experience building responsive, accessible, and high‑performance UI solutions

  • 2+ years of experience with frontend testing frameworks (Jest, Playwright, Cypress etc.)

  • 2+ years of exposure to micro-frontend architecture

Desired Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of Browser internals, performance optimization, and debugging experience

  • Experience modernizing legacy frontend applications

  • Experience in enterprise or large-scale consumer applications

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management abilities

  • Ability to lead by influence and example in a fast-paced environment

  • Angular or Vue.js experience

  • Knowledge of: RESTful APIs and frontend‑backend integration

  • Familiarity with modern build tools and bundlers (Webpack, Vite, Rollup, etc.)
