Job Summary
We are embarking on a multi-year greenfield initiative to re-architect and improve our existing suite of applications by using industry-leading technologies that provide higher scalability, improved resiliency, and reduced time to market.
We’re looking for a highly technical, curious, and ambitious software engineer with 1-3 years of relevant experience to join the Securities Settlements engineering team in New York City office.
Team Summary and Functions
Securities Settlements team deals with clearance and settlement of ~$2 trillion worth of securities per day for all of Goldman Sachs. The remit of Securities Settlements function is to ensure that any securities movement the firm wishes to make settles in a timely fashion, i.e., securities are delivered to the recipient, usually against the payment of money or vice versa, on the intended settlement date.
Our team consists of 7 people in New York and around 45 globally, spread across 4 key locations: Tokyo, Bengaluru, London, and New York.
Almost all our projects are cross-location and cross-function, meaning we work directly with Middle Office, Operations, Books and Records, and their respective Engineering teams across the firm. We design and implement a wide range of functions including clearance and settlement of securities, posting to Firm’s ledgers, and interacting with external clearing houses and agent banks.
Responsibilities include:
- Design, build and maintain highly scalable and performant yet nimble and adaptive platforms for processing large volumes of securities settlements data.
- Design and build distributed micro services leveraging Apache Kafka, Kubernetes, and similar industry leading tools to process large volumes of sensitive data and manage risks around it.
- Undertake development across all tiers of our business-facing systems within a global team.
- Implement and suggest best development practices/methodologies to deliver high quality software throughout the development stack.
- Our primary technologies are Java, Kafka, Kubernetes, databases (Sybase, DB2), Data lakehouse like Snowflake, and Gitlab for version-controlled development.
- Liaise with multiple Operations teams to understand and build solutions for various business functions.
- Experience of developing and managing high volume, distributed, and real-time transaction processing systems.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies (eg. Docker, Kubernetes)
- Working experience with UNIX and scripting (Perl/Python/Shell)
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
- 1-3 years of experience with Java or similar object-oriented language (e.g. C++, C#, Scala, Python).
- Desire to build strong and efficient SDLC practices and familiarity with test driven development and business driven development.
- Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with hands-on experience of debugging and optimizing code as well as automation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with willingness to learn and grow as a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Apache Kafka or Kafka Streams in building real-time data pipelines and streaming applications.
- Experience in event driven architecture especially in event sourcing pattern.
- Experience with relational databases with ability to write and analyze complex queries with multi-table joins and aggregate functions.
- Experience with Web services (RESTful), ORM frameworks (Hibernate) and build tools (e.g. Maven, Gradle)
- Experience in monitoring and alerting solutions using Prometheus or similar technologies for capturing application performance metrics.
- Experience with Data Lakehouse like Snowflake.
