DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is looking to grow and enhance our practice and we are adding a Project Manager – Highway | Phase II to be a part of our Highway Department in Illinois.  With limited guidance from the Department Manager, plans, directs, and coordinates activities of designated project to ensure that goals or objectives of project are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters. 

The Project Manager will have and expert knowledge of the requirements of Phase II Engineering as they relate to the process of developing plans, special provisions, estimates, bid documents and permit applications for projects utilizing various funding source. Their experience will include developing and interpreting construction documents. The ideal candidate will be proficient in technical writing with strong knowledge of IDOT policies and procedures. They will be responsible for leading final plan design for roadway, rail, and bikeway projects for the successful delivery of transportation and public works projects throughout Illinois as well as managing and mentoring project teams. 

The Project Manager will build and maintain relationships with key client decision makers, keeping ahead of upcoming project advertisements and changes in the clients’ organization.  The Project Manager will also be expected to support projects in other states, and multi-state licensure is recommended. A working knowledge of MicroStation/Openroads is anticipated to effectively perform the tasks noted above. This position is based in Chicago, IL and we offer a flexible hybrid work schedule, per supervisor approval and depending on client requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Prepare contract plans, special provisions, estimates, bid documents and permit applications.
  • Implement and execute Michael Baker QA/QC processes for project teams.
  • Reviews project proposal or plan to determine scope, time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project.
  • Establishes work plan and staffing for each phase of project and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project personnel.
  • Develops/implements project plans/methodologies for complex projects, varying between single and multi-discipline practices.
  • Confers with project staff to outline workplan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority; Manages the resources of the project.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.
  • Perform analysis of project management development and success to align with company goals and strategies.
  • Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required.
  • Prepares project reports for management, client, or others, and perform cost management analysis.
  • Develops and maintains client engagement to ensure satisfaction.
  • May influence clients into winning work (new work added) for future projects.
  • Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems.
  • Coordinates project activities with activities of government regulatory or other governmental agencies.
  • Conducts safety meetings and training programs to ensure safety requirements are met.
  • Generate and/or approve purchase orders, rebills, credits; reviews timesheets.
  • Occasional to moderate travel may be required.
  • Participation in industry related professional societies is encouraged.
  • Other duties as assigned.
