Summer Intern – Hardware Engineer (Connectivity and Sensing), Hague Road Technical Center – Indianapolis, Indiana 

As an Allegion Hardware Engineer, you will contribute meaningful work and make a direct impact on Allegion’s Connectivity and Sensing Team. The Connectivity and Sensing Team is a growing advanced development engineering organization focused on wireless connectivity. The team develops technology solutions utilizing the latest in wireless technologies including low-power WiFi, ultra-wide band (UWB), and Matter.  

 
You will gain valuable experience in defining and scoping requirements for hardware, designing and documenting architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, testing, and integration into a larger modular system. Additional opportunities include learning electronic locking systems, access control solutions, and participating in peer reviews on design and testing.

What You Will Do:  

  • Gain experience with embedded wireless technologies such as WiFi, BLE, UWB and Thread 

  • Utilize tools engineering tools for schematic capture, PCB layout, simulation, and design analysis 

  • Gain experience in embedded hardware design and testing techniques 

  • Deepen your understanding of RF design and antenna considerations  

  • Work with a team to produce well-rounded solutions 

  • Participate in daily and other regular team meetings, including project teams and hardware competency 

  • Deepen your understanding in basic electronics and the use of electrical tools, such as a digital multi-meter, oscilloscope, and digital logic analyzers 

  • Obtain the experience to create a foundation for growth and future opportunities with Allegion 

 

What You Need to Succeed:  

  • Pursuing a degree in a relevant discipline, e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering Technology, and Electrical Engineering Technology 

  • Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative, e.g. school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor, leadership on school or work projects, etc. 

  • At least one class in basic circuit theory or design - preference is mid-level proficiency in circuit design 

  • Familiarity with Altium Designer or equivalent ECAD design tool is a plus 

  • Effective listening, time management and creative problem-solving techniques  

  • A desire to learn, grow and develop by working on projects that
