Description

We are looking for a Library Page in the Schomburg Center Research & Reference Division. A successful candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, are reliable and possess excellent written and verbal communications skills. You will be expected to be an ambassador for the library, so a friendly demeanor goes a long way.  You will have access to the Library Page Fellowship Program as a Library Page. A career growth development program that empowers youth as they shape their careers. The Program provides resources to help develop career readiness skills, explore career goals, and provide on-the-job coaching, training, and mentorship.
The library page position is scheduled for 19 hours per week, including evenings and Saturdays.  Schedules are variable based on library needs and may be subject to change.

Key Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Library Technical Assistant  IV, Library Pages are responsible for a variety of tasks within the library including:
  • Retrieving and reshelving library materials.
  • Locating and preparing library materials requested by patrons.
  • Preparing the library for opening and/or closing by performing such tasks as straightening chairs and tables, reshelving, and replenishing depleted supplies.
  • Shelf reading and maintaining the organization and general appearance of the stacks.
  • Using the library’s online management system to search catalog records and check in materials. 
  • Unpacking and packing boxes, and retrieving carts and bins.  
  • Photocopying, scanning and reproduction work.
  • Performing collection-based projects such as rehousing of collections. 
  • Providing basic informational assistance to patrons.
  • Assisting patrons with computers and printers.
  • Clerical tasks such as filing and some basic data entry.
  • Performing related duties as required

Required Education, Experience & Skills

Required Education and Certifications Required Skills 
  • Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationships.
  • Must demonstrate strong attention to detail, speed and accuracy in carrying out duties.
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently sort and arrange items in alphanumeric order.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team and on independent projects.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and reliability.
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Basic computer and basic technology skills such as Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications
