About the role

Riptide Technology is hiring a Network SME  for a hybrid role out of Washington, DC at the Naval Research Lab. The Scrum Master & Network SME  will join the TNM team.
Tactical Network Modeling (TNM) is a network emulation and modeling environment for virtual field testing multi-path, mesh, and advanced networking protocols across all operational domains; from space to seabed. Mission-driven metrics are used to evaluate the network’s performance using event-driven scenarios. The TNM toolset creates digital twins of the protocol stack under-test across all of the relevant nodes in the network topology and then simulates the scenario using either virtualized hardware or physical connections to actual hardware in the loop. The state of the network and its performance metrics are stored in a time-series database and evaluated in real-time
Work will be split between home (Telework) and NRL (maximally 2-3 days per week) at discretion of program manager.

Responsibilities:

  • The TNM team requires a network SME to support the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) Rapid Architecture Prototyping and Integration Demonstration (RAPID) team. A network SME leverages the latest network technology and TNM tools to design, analyze, and assess network architecture for projects. A network SME’s job includes:
  • Designing Network Architecture: A network SME designs network architecture for new ground and/or space networks. In other words, a network modeling SME shapes the node and interconnection / topology for these networks.
  • Modeling New Networks: A network SME models, architects, and emulates new networks for both wired and wireless applications.
  • Analyzing Performance: A network SME uses the necessary TNM tools, commercial, or environment tools, to gather analytical data and produce metrics for each network’s performance.
  • Providing Knowledge/Expertise: A network SME should be reasonably familiar with current networking standards and the latest network technology to include AWS and Microsoft Azure.
  • Troubleshooting: A network SME should be available and able to troubleshoot network-related problems in real time as needed.
  • Engaging Stakeholders: A network SME assists the project manager at meetings with TNM stakeholders to keep them updated on progress and new developments.
  • Educating the Team: A network SME may be called upon to educate or inform other TNM team members on network matters. It’s useful to learn basic PowerPoint skills to create visual aids for internal meetings and briefings.
  • Collaborating with Other Teams: A network SME may be called upon to assist other teams working with the TNM team on a specific project.
