The anticipated salary range for this role is between $115,000.00 and $180,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

Apply analytical expertise on structured and unstructured data sets to glean market insights. Create proprietary trading algorithms to inform security selection, market timing, portfolio construction and risk management. Produce written quantitative research and advise internal stakeholders in sales and trading on quant-driven investment strategies.

Role Objectives: Delivery

Build and maintain team's quantitative models to support analysis of structured and unstructured data sets. Draft written research content and prepare reports for publication and ensure timely editorial review and supervisory analyst clearance. Participate in client marketing calls and prepare call reports for internal circulation. Field inbound requests from internal and external stakeholders regarding team's investment thesis and assumptions. Support external campaigns to achieve recognition in external industry surveys.

Role Objectives: Interpersonal

Foster strong relationships with buy-side contacts and portfolio managers at target accounts. Partner with internal colleagues in sales and trading on inbound client queries and requests; support team heads in preparing for senior management briefings. Attend external industry conferences to foster network across peers, clients and other industry stakeholders, and arrange logistics for hosted events. Leverage support resources in client analytics, compliance and editorial to execute on high quality and timely deliverables.

Role Objectives: Expertise

Stay abreast of macroeconomic and sector / industry trends that might inform new or existing investment hypotheses. Improve skills in data science, statistical analysis and core programming languages (C++, Python, MATLAB, R, others) to identify patterns and trends in data sets and translate algorithms into code. Liaise with internal counterparts in sales and trading to improve understanding of client sentiment and investment strategies. Become a subject matter expert in research publication technology and act as first line of defense in troubleshooting publication issues. Undertake regular compliance and conduct training to stay current on evolving regulatory requirements.
