The Special Operations Platform Systems team within Collins Aerospace is seeking a student to join us as a Systems Engineering Co-op for January – August 2026. Our team is responsible for the A/MH-6R, MH-60M, and MH-47G helicopter flight decks for the U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation (SOA) customer.  The selected engineer will come on board as a member of our platform systems engineering team and participate in avionics engineering tasks that are associated with the design, development, integration, and test of platform and software applications. 

This an onsite role located in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run January-August (including the Spring semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity).

What You Will Do:

• Learn requirements capture and peer review for A/MH-6R, MH-60M, and MH-47G cockpit avionics for the SOA programs

• Participate in decomposing and allocating requirements to appropriate domains within Collins Aerospace

• Support the creation of test procedures to verify requirements

• Participate in on-site execution of requirements-based testing, robustness and Ad-Hoc testing in a lab environment (schedule flexibility is necessary during formal test phases). 

• Collaborate within an Agile-based development team of professional engineers

What You Will Learn:

• The full experience of platform systems engineering activities from initial requirements capture all the way to supporting fielded products

• How to be successful in an Agile development environment

• Effective use of systems engineering tools such as DOORs, JIRA, and the ALM tools suite

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent. Student must be pursuing a Bachelors or advanced degree in an applicable discipline

• U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access the information under this program/contract

Qualifications We Prefer: 

• Familiarity with Agile methodologies 

• Basic experience with DOORS, JIRA, and ALM tool suite

• Basic experience working within an aerospace related engineering development environment

• Basic experience or knowledge of engineering/technology requirements capture and configuration management tools

• Basic experience or an educational background covering requirements capture & definition, integration, verification & validation testing

• A collaborative attitude, accountability for actions taken, execution to plan, and a self-motivation that produces superior results
